Katherine Shannon

A 1st AD, Writer and Director, Katherine Shannon has most recently worked on the BFI/Mumbai/LA award-winning Queer Parivaar, a short film representing the LGBTQ+ community that premiered at BFI Flare and was a global success.

Before becoming a
full time writer and producer, she was a stand up comedian in Edinburgh with The McKray Twins, writing much of the material. She ran a Comedy Club in Brixton, holding open mic nights that discovered the talents of Catherine Tate,  Paul Sinha, Shappi Khorsandi and more. 

She wrote and performed Baby Love with Sara West, which was shown at The Soho Theatre, and detailed the travails of newly pregnant Mothers. They performed all the characters, including their Mothers and Boyfriends.

She worked on Re-Shaped for award winning Director Stephen Pierre Mitchell which featured award-winning comedian Janey Godley; and was a consultant on
Mrs Wilson for the BBC/Snowed-In Productions with her cousin Ruth Wilson. 

Recent features include Dimension Slip and Silent Night which are available on Netflix and Sky. 

She won Best Female Director at Mumbai International for her film Crisps and Zombies which has won 10 awards worldwide.

Katherine has just finished writing a Comedy/Drama TV series about long standing friendships and male mental health, which was written for, amongst others; Dave Johns, Michael Smiley, Geoff Whiting, Bill Fellows and James Purefoy.
